Every Wednesday, I post one of my nature photos – a ‘Whisper’ that’s my version of stopping to smell the roses. Perhaps if we pay a bit more attention to the nature that’s all around us, we’ll be more inclined to cherish and protect it. Scroll below the photo to learn more about the subject. Enjoy!
Another lovely flower that I photographed recently while visiting the Adirondacks. This is the ‘bottle’ or ‘closed’ gentian (Gentiana clausa). The name comes from the fact that this flower never opens in the traditional sense of the word – you see them here at the height of their bloom. To pollinate, bees have to work their way in between the petals and then back their way out. Along with several other varieties of gentian species, this plant is native to the northeastern US and I see it often in the Adirondacks.
