Wednesday’s Whisper – Waterlily

in Nature & Inspiration

Simple living means being able to take the time to slow down, appreciate the little things and reconnect with nature. Perhaps if we pay a bit more attention to the wonders that are all around us, we’ll be more inclined to cherish and protect them. Scroll below the photo to learn more about the subject. Enjoy!

I am in serious need of some summer right now (it’s 8 degrees as I type this) and I thought you might be too. I photographed this waterlily a couple years ago in the Adirondacks. A retired forest ranger told me these pink ones are not native; they’re a cultivated variety that escaped into the wild years ago – from Vermont or New Hampshire, if memory serves. Only the white and yellow ones that you see on so many Adirondack lakes and ponds in July and August are native and wild. At this point in a long cold winter though, anything this pretty is bound to lift winter-weary spirits!
